Boost Your Online Presence: 3 Practical Tips to Optimize Your Website Today

By

In today’s digital age, having a strong online presence is crucial for success. One key element to consider is optimizing your website’s SEO (Search Engine Optimization). When it comes to optimizing your website, specific placeholders on your website are more impactful than others when you place the right keywords in them.

They are your URL, SEO title tag, and page title. Below that, you have your subheadings, such as H2 and H3 tags. And lastly, your content. By implementing these on-page SEO best practices, you can boost your website’s visibility and attract more of your ideal clients.

Let’s dive in!

Optimize the URL

To optimize the URL, use your keyword research template to find the most important keyword/s. Next, create a new page in your WordPress dashboard and add a permalink (a fancy term for a URL). This is where you can input the keyword/s you want to target. Once you have added the keyword to the permalink, click “OK” and then click “Publish.” This now becomes your URL for that page.

If you have not done keyword research, I suggest doing that first. Here is a link to my free resource, “5 Key Steps in Basic Keyword Research,” to get you started.

*Warning* It’s not recommended to simply change the URL of existing pages, as it can have a negative impact on your website. If you must do it, there is a proper way to handle it, which we will cover in a separate blog post.

Optimize your SEO title and meta description

Your page title is the first thing users see in search engine results, followed by your meta description, so making it captivating and relevant is essential.

To optimize your page title, follow these tips:

– Include your primary keyword/s: Incorporate your target keyword naturally within the title to improve search engine ranking.

– Keep it concise: Aim for a title length of 50-60 characters to ensure it displays fully in search results.

– Make it compelling: Craft a title that grabs attention and entices users to click through to your website.

To optimize your meta description, follow these tips:

The meta description is a brief summary displayed below the page title in search results. – Include the keyword: Incorporate your target keyword naturally within the description.

– Keep it concise: Aim for a description length of around 150-160 characters to ensure it displays fully in search results.

– Make it enticing: Craft a compelling description highlighting the benefits of visiting your website, encouraging users to click.

Here is a snippet of two examples that come up when I do a Google search for gold clubs.

Optimize your main heading

The page title or H1 heading is the main heading on your webpage. Optimizing it helps search engines understand the content and improves user experience. Follow these guidelines to optimize your H1 tag:

– Use a single H1 tag: Each page should have only one H1 tag to maintain clarity and hierarchy.

– Include your target keyword: Incorporate your primary keyword naturally within the H1 tag.

– Make it descriptive: Craft a concise, descriptive heading that accurately represents the page’s content.

Extra tip: Learning to check if your website is appropriately optimized is crucial. To simplify this process, you can download a free Google Chrome extension called “SEO META in 1 click“. This extension offers a hassle-free way to check all three optimizations we covered today.

Using the search results for golf clubs, this is what the extension shows us. We can see that the three placeholders for on-page SEO have been properly updated.

By implementing these on-page SEO best practices, you’re taking the beginning steps toward maximizing your website’s visibility and attracting your ideal clients.
